Great Loss in Herp Community
I would like everyone to know that the Herpetological and Herpetocultural Communities have lost a great person. Anthony "Tony" Baum passed away last Thursday. Tony was a retired zoo keeper from the OKC zoo and had over 40 years in the herp community,he was most recently the owner of Fat Frog Pets in Guthrie OK. Among other things Tony ran and promoted the OKC reptile show, worked with mammals including tigers and elephants, and trained horses professionally. Over the years Tony bred and kept thousands of reptiles and amphibians and was the first to breed many species in captivity. He was known throughout the world as a wonderful person and herper. I think all of us who knew Tony would agree that he was loved and well liked by everyone he met.
The community and world has lost a great asset that cannot be replaced.
There is a memorial fund set up to assist his wife and daughter with expenses, anonymous donations can be made by calling:
Oklahoma State Bank
Guthrie, OK
405-260-2265
and asking to donate to the Tony Baum Memorial Fund
Tony was personally a great friend and mentor to me and was always a phone call away to remind me that he has forgotten more about herps than I could ever hope to learn.
we will miss you Tony,
Tim Colston
