I've been extremely fortunate in getting some amazing herps on donation for use in my classroom this past year, and I'm trying to help the other science teachers here in my state by trying to round up more generous people who are willing to donate offspring, retired breeders, spare animals, rescues, enclosures, etc. I'm currently compiling a list of teachers here who want reptiles to keep at their schools and what they would specifically like.
If you think you could help by donating classroom-friendly herps, please contact me. I will get you into contact with a teacher who would want what you have to offer.
Consider the fact that education is truly the key to trying to preserve these animals for the long term, not to mention the fact that it's the only way to begin to get people over their irrational fears. The more we can educate, the more people might be willing to help try to preserve habitat, not kill every snake they see, and pass that knowledge on to future generations. Your donation of a herp or enclosure will go a long way in giving the foundation for this effort. Besides, just imagine if your science teacher in school had a classroom full of herps. You would've loved it, wouldn't you?
If you feel you have something you could contribute, e-mail me or call me at 479-477-0434.
Understand that these donations will not be going 'through' me, but instead I will put you in contact with the teacher and you and that person will work things out. Some teachers may be able and willing to cover whatever shipping costs would be required to get the animal/enclosure here if you aren't close enough to drop it off or have them pick it up, but some may need a little help.
Thank you very much for your consideration!
