I also posted about this on the experts area of the forums but help would still be appreciated. Also I just read about mambaseller1 and am very sorry for his family.I lost my dad just last may and I'm only 14 and its been pretty hard but my snakes and family
have helped me through. Anyway I am an experienced handler/keeper of constrictors and have handled wild kingsnkaes and garters. Latley I have been curious about venomous snakes. I am wondering if a false water cobra would be a good choice for entering the hots scene. Any info on them and their behavior/needs would be great. If anyone doesn't think this is a good starter then if you could give me another suggestion that would be great too.

It is my opinion that if you are interested in venomous reptiles, that you should first do as much research as possible, and talk to as any seasoned professionals as you possibly can before even considering taking on the major responsibilities that are involved with owning and caring for a venomous reptile. If you are bitten, what are the chances for your survival? What is your backup,or safety plan after the bite to contain the reptile? Is antivenom available at the local hospitals? If your venomous reptile escapes from its enclosure,is the room the enclosure is in a secure area? Are you sure that none of your family,or friends will "play" with the reptile while you are gone? Are you willing ad able to take full responsibility if another person is envenomated by one of your reptiles? These are all questions that you should consider before making the decision to purchase any venomous animal. It may seem fun,or glamorous,or thrilling, but there are lots of risks in owning and caring for a venomous reptile that you may not have taken into consideration.Another thing to consider is your location, and the laws pertaining to housing and ownership of venomous reptiles.Make your choices wisely,or they could end in disaster for you,or someone you love.

Get the book "Venomous Reptiles in Captivity" and read it cover to cover. It's a great resource, and will give you an idea of the responsibilities, and the ability to adhere strictly to guidlines and protocols, that are necessary when keep venomous reptiles.
