Hey everyone. Phillip and I went to the state park behind my house today and caught a few good snakes. First we caught a Black Racer on the road. Then we went to a big rock outcrop and found a juvenile canebrake rattlesnake. We went to my house and released a Northern Copperhead,We went road cruising some more and found a dead copperhead, a few minutes later we found a big copperhead. Snakes are still out at night and its October!!

I also go herping on state parks and releas what i find right back in the same place i find them. Like this coming weekend, we are leaving to go camping at a state park in northeast AL, what i will do is catch them , take pics then let them go and will not take them to the camp site. I will take the pic in the same place i find them, so not to put any stress on the ones i catch. So i see nothing rong with what i do as long as i dont harm the snake or any other herp for that mater. So i say good on ya for choosing a state parks to herp in, its a good place to get good pics. ........happy herping Wally.

Hey Phillip, I let the big copperhead go back were we found him. I took him across the road where the creek is and set him between a rock and a rotting log. Call me sometime.

In all state parks it is illegal to harass or capture any animals. Yes some people kill them and get away with it but if you get caught then you may be fined.
Also Phillip your photo on your profile shows that you need to be more careful. Tailing pit vipers is dangerous and tailing animals under 3 ft is very poor
technique. Also you clearly have the hook raised above the level where is is parallel to the ground; if the snake thrashes or strikes, it will fall out of the hook part and be sliding up the handle towards your hand or be out of the hook alltogether. Then you would be holding a small snake in your hand and close to your chest and face. I am not trying to be mean but hoping to keep you from getting hurt.
