I just recently learned of this animal and was wondering if anyone could direct me to somewhere that may have more information and photographs. Froam what I have seen, it is an absolutely beautiful snake and have also heard that there are a few here in teh U.S.
Anyone know anything about this animal?

Hi Matt:
The "Dwarf Bitis" are some really awesome snakes. Info is sparse though. Here's a few spots:
http://srs.embl-heidelberg.de:8000/srs5bin/cgi-bin/wgetz?[REPTILIA-Species:Bitis*]
http://www.toxinology.com/fusebox.cfm?fuseaction=main.snakes.display&id=SN0208
Also Hank Molt has some pictures on his website too.
All of the "dwarf Bitis" are Mucho $$
I have a Bitis caudalis that I have some pictures on my website: http://groups.msn.com/SomeLikeThemHot
It's a cool dwarf too
Enjoy,
Al

the ones I saw didn't look too "dwarf", they were between 2' and 3' and very thick. Proportions similar to a puff adder. Glades had a few of them in a couple of years ago, amazing animals, I think they were around $4500 each if I remember correctly.

I would not give Glades any business. I seen their shop first hand and it WAS DISGUSTING. The animals looked abused. I was there on several ocassions and they DO NOT take care of the turtles. All the turtles they had were without water and starting to dehydrate until I brought that "important" point to their UNDERQUALIFIED employees, then something was done. A friend of mine also made the mistake of ordering 2,000.00 worth of hots that arrived in very poor condition. Eight of the 11 hots survived. They did not refund any of his money. Just an FYI for you. Mardi Snipes of Coastal Reptiles, on the other hand, is very helpful and knows what he is doing. He also takes great care of his animals. If I were buying I would LOOK to him.
