Hi everyone, I just got back last night from South Carolina. I went with Ellijay Wildlife Rehabilitation Sactuary to give a live exhibit of animals. We had a big burmese python,a North American Black Bear,a northern linx,3 ferrets,2 oppossums, and a chinchilla(There were a lot of young kids at the show lol)My job was to teach the kids about snakes. Alot of them touched the snake and some had there picture made with it. I loved there reactions. I remember one little kid that was about 5 years old that stayed with the snake for almost an hour. he said that he loved snakes and that he wanted to become a "snake studier". Everyone kept saying that the snake felt good and that they thought that they would be slimey. I told people how important they are to the world, and that if you dont bother the snake it want bother you. All of the teachers and adults touched it too. Altogether there was about 5-7 thousand kids teachers and parents there. We set up for three days from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. I work as a volunteer for them now and the "boss" travels alot to educate the public. The sanctuary also has alot of Cougars, North Americans most endangered mammal. There are only 45 left in the entire world!! That is one reason the deer population is so over crowded, because we have killed a major predator of the deer. And overpopulation of any animal sooner or later leads to disease. Please help protect the worlds animals and educate the public about our beautiful animals. Good luck....Jeremy.

Hey Jeremy, that's great. You are headed in the right direction in your quest to be a zoologist or herpetologist. As we discussed before, these volunteer things give you experience and they also teach you as well as others. Good for you buddy. I bet it was fun too.

Great to hear (or read). I started out when I was about 14 working with exotic as well as the native wildlife. It's been a rewarding journey, not rich, but over the years I have gotten to see and work with some amazing animals. Keep at it Jeremy. Don't forget school because you really can't get too far without it nowadays. But with both experience and education, you'll have an edge over almost everyone out there.
