According to you're profile you are only 12 correct. If that is so you are way to young to be dealing with hots.It is best for you to wait untill you are of age, and in the meantime learn as much as you can. There will be plenty waiting on you when you are old enough, and more experianced.

Nick, my first question for you is how old are you? If you are under 18, I would never recommend you keeping any Venomous Reptiles at this time. There are to many dangers in keeping Hots, it takes a lot of responsibility. You need to know how many bad repercussions can come with this hobby, think if one of your Snakes gets lose and bites someone, what would you do then? This hobby is a lot more than knowing how to handle your Snakes, its knowing how to keep them in a place that they cant escape from. I am not trying to sound like mom/dad, but I would like to know your age before hand. All your profile says is that you are 12 years old, if i read it right. Now, if this is true, you need to wait a long time before keeping or even trying to handle any Venomous Reptile. If you are under age, you have all the time in the world to learn before getting into keeping Hots. Stay on this site and ask all the questions you can, read all you can, do your own research, on the habits and lives of these truly wonderful animals. Last but not least, try to find someone that will help teach you in proper handling and husbandry, believe me you will be glad you did.........Be safe, happy herping, Wally

Nick, snakes are wonderful animals to keep and raise in captivity. But with venomous comes a WHOLE different responsibility. Keeping venomous snakes is a whole different ball game. You cant make mistakes with these animals, cause if you do, it may be your last. This is a very real possiability even if it is just a cage clean, water change, or feeding. You sound like me when I was 12.. Always loved and raised snakes, but never kept venomous until 3 years ago. So, my best advise to you would be to stay away from hots for now, cause you are under age and you need experience and knowledge. Stay with your ratsnakes, milksnakes, kingsnakes, etc. Learn the basic stuff first. With thses snakes, if you do get bit, then all you will have are just a few cuts and scrapes and you get to see another day. Always keep up your skills with the nonvenomous snakes. Kind of sets a base for yourself. Keep up your knowledge and interest and never stop learning. These hot snakes will be here when you turn 18. Also, when you do turn 18, and if you are still interested in keeping hots, get with an experienced keeper and learn from that keeper before you start your own collection. Also, learn from your mistakes you make with your nonvenomous snakes. Bryan
