James:
At minimum you need a 4 year degree in Biology or Zoology to get to post graduate work in Herpetology so that is where you should focus. Any good liberal arts school will have this type of program. I know U. Texas, Arlington has a good program in Herpteology. Look up the different TX schools on the net and you can see what they offer.
Now that I have answered your question specifically I wish to discuss some old business.
If your in Highschool...just how old are you really? Should you be keeping HOT's at all? You told me in a rather fiesty response that you have kept hots for 7 years...which made you about 10 years old when you started. See below for text copied from this forum:

Sorry, but the response was a bit off color and I am just not willing to let this sort of thing get started again.
Please keep in mind that children visit and read these forums.
Here is an edited version of James' response:

I have kept hots for just over 7 years now. I have kept green and black mambas, and mainly other vipers. I have kept very few cobras and they were easy to maintain and handle when needed. These ones I just got are very agressive. I don't keep any cages with screen tops because I know that can cause problems so apparently you don't know what you are talking about and you just have nothing better to do beside sit around and give people grief!!. I just wanted to know the best possible way to treat that so thanx.
thanx
James H.
Bear in mind that James Hubbard felt a little more strongly about your response. I don't have time to edit every innappropriate response and won't even try. Usually I just remove them.
Be civil to one another.

I don't like is people or a person that distorts the truth to suit themselves.
Furthermore, Underage people who buy hots from unsuspecting dealers risk causing all sorts of legal trouble. Why do you think Hot's are being banned in state after state?? People who should not have them...have them and put themselves & community at risk.
Even when the get tagged they don't even come clean, Case in point:
In a conversation this week with one of the Medical Directors of a Poison Control Center I was told that a person showed up at a Hospital Emergency room in a state which has many Atrox bites, the victim was not very forthcomming with information about the kind of snake that did the deed. They were about to start infusing Crotalid A/V when the Dr. finally got him to admit that the bite was from a Puff Adder. He would have died for sure if he did not fess up.
James time for you to fess up.

Hey James,
There are many herpetologists in most Universities through out Texas. Go to the University's website and find the biology department. Then click on the department faculty. Whenever you check out the biographies of the professors there you should certainly find one that works on herps. I can think of well over a dozen herpetology professors in Texas.
Even smaller Universities should have a herpetologist. But that depends on the school.
But to be a herpetologist you have to get a degree in biology, zoology, ecology, or related field. There are no degrees in herpetology. Otherwise that is what I would have went for, lol. You have to be a biologist first and herpetologist second.
