Hi Trey.
Well pigmies are most abundant in the later months of the summer and early fall. Thats when road cruising for them works but for the spring I would walk around in areas that have been burned checking burned out stumpholes or long leaf pines and other root holes, also look under cover logs, boards, tin etc. Look around burned out turkey oak stumps and fallen logs too along ponds and sand ridges. Also old rotten pine and maple logs that are covered either with honeysuckle ,poison ivey , virgina creeper ,or trumpet vine. I sometimes find them in those type areas aswell .One more area is look around is where D.O.T puts large granite stones to hold back creek and sideditch banks usually around culverts.
Good luck. The hotter it is the easier it is to find sistrurus miliarius.
sorry for the bad spelling

Hey Trey,
You should find pigs in Chesterfield and around Cheraw where they control manage and burn the pine woods. McCormick is good and Aiken is good but I would stay alittle south of Habersham GA Pigmies are there but harder to find they are more abundant closer to the river. Also some of the high pine land along the Peedee is good too.
Good Luck !
Zach

Thanks again Zach,I have never herped in north east Georgia. When you say they are more common near the river would you my saying which river?I will not be collecting only photography. Also I grew up around the PeeDee river in Darlington S.C. and spent alot of time searching areas you would think would support populations of Pigmys but I have never even found a DOR.Sorry for all the questions but finding this snake is very important to me.If you dont feel comfortable posting answers on public forums please e-mail me @ swampwoogie@yahoo.com.Trey
