Hey fellow herpers, has anyone heard of any planes in the works to try and open a Southeastern A/V Bank? I know about the one that is being opened in the Northeast and it sounds like a good idea, but I wonder if anyone in the Southeast has thought of trying to fallow up on this. The one they are opening in the Northeast sounds great, but we hear in the Southeast need to attempt to found one to, if not it will be difficult to get A/V fast enough to save lives. Just think of what this could do to save or hobby. This means that when someone gets tagged they wont have to take away from Zoo stokes. If I could help in anyway to open a A/V Bank for the Southeast, I would be happy to try and do so........Be safe ya’ll, happy herping, Wally

Wally,
To the best of my knowledge, the Miami-Dade Antivenom Bank takes care of all the Southeastern (and elsewhere) envenomations. I don't believe they have formal membership any longer, but they certainly
are there.

Bill's right, Miami Dade takes care of the SE for the most part, however, they no longer take memebrships and invoice the hospital for the A/V used. So then the hospital bills you whatever they want too.

Thanks for replying ya’ll. Yes, the Hospital bills are one of the reasons I would like to join up with anyone willing to found a new Southeastern A/V Bank, I mite not be able to do much, but I would do what I can to help. I know that Miami Dade takes care of most, if not all the bites that happen in the Southeast. I would like to see a A/V Bank somewhat like the one in the Northeast opened here. Like I said I would love to be part of one. I think it would make things a lot easier on Venomous keepers here in the Southeast “considering the price of A/V and the price of Hospital bills”. If anyone has any ideas, or thoughts on founding a A/V Bank here, please let me know................Be safe, happy herping Wally

Wally...
Just be patient. The one in the NE is not the end of the story. Once set up & running we will open others.

Hello All,
Actually as far as envenomations in South Carolina are concerned; Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia gives the antivenom. I know for a fact of two such occassions. There reptile curator has spoken of this subject in detail at the 2003 S.H.H.S. banquet. According to him the zoo can be without a specific antivenom (which they need)because of a private keepers mistake.
