I have friends who use playsand mixed with pine straw and various sundries for Eastern Diamondbacks. They have not reported any negative experiences. I've heard a *rumor* that sand can get under the scutes and cause an infection.
I personally like a mixture of cypress mulch and aspen. When sprinkled with a few oak leaves and pine bark pieces it looks VERY natural.
I did use playsand for a cali king and a pueblan milk once, didn't have any trouble. I wouldn't feed them on it though.
Can't help with the beardies, I've never kept them. Ihave a friend whose a beardie expert. I'll ask him to reply.

i raised a bearded dragon on sand from the time of its birth to present date. had no problems with it, i would suggest the actual sand made for reptiles though.

alot of people tell me not to use sand, but I dont see any reason to not use it. Alot of snakes live in florida and sand is everywhere down there.

I prefer the recycled paper pellets, It's easy to clean and looks good in a display tank. There are no fibres or dust and they don't tend to suffer the compaction problem as I've heard people who use sand can.
