Do copperheads sometimes hibernate with babies and then give birth the next season? I found one today that looked and felt like it was pregnant.

Hey Jeremy, I have heard other herpers talking about this same thing. One guy told me, he found a Female (A. piscivorus) Cottonmouth, that was gravid. He said he found her in SC, near Akin. It was middle of the winter, late January early February I think it was. Now, I don’t know if this was true, but we know that Female Crotalus Species can retain Sperm over winter, so who knows, could be possible for Agkistrodons to do the same. Now, the idea that they could hold babies over winter, that I don’t know. I do know one thing, Science has proven that Animals can and will do things we never expect. Would be something to find out that (A. contortrix) Copperhead, could do this huu?..........Be safe, Wally
