For those of you that do now understand that term, it refers to the geographic location of the Balkans, and area that is completely fragmented and separated. We are in the middle of a balkanization and we need to reverse that trend. We are few in number as it is and we can not stand to have our menial ranks divided. There are far too many inflammatory posts floating around right now. We are one unit and we need to function as one unit. Someone continues to make an anonymous post about the Jeremy and Phillip situation with the cobra in FL. They want to make sure everyone knows I was there. Ok, your wish is granted. I was there. Jeremy, Phillip, Dustin, Jesse, Silas, and I took a trip to FL together. We went to that shop together. None of those guys are my children. None of those guys work for me. It was not my shop and was not my snake. I did not get the snake out, nor did I hand it to anyone. I am not sure what you expected me to do in that situation. Perhaps make sings and start a picket line? But back to my point, fragmenting ourselves is self-defeating. Not everyone does things the way I would like them to, but I am not in a position to judge what they are doing. Al Coritz, I am disappointed in the way you have carried yourself. You know, Phillip really looked up to you at one point. If you would have approached him correctly, you may have been able to sway him to your way of thinking, but after what you have said about him, I doubt he will respect anything else you have to say. That was further Balkanization we did not need. While on that subject, I think Phillip was the only one that didn’t free hand that cobra that day. They offered it to him and he asked for a hook. And the statement you made about not training young herpers, you are 100% wrong. When you refuse them, you do not remove their desire, you only remove their desire to ask for help. I know I was keeping hots well before I was 18, and many of us here were. I know the political climate we live in make minors keeping hots a potential time bomb. I would rather they wait till they are 18, but I didn’t and they are not going to. Instead of constantly casting dispersions and name calling, lets offer up help. That is what a “community does.” The venomous community includes everyone who has chosen to enter this life-style. From those who keep voids, to researchers, field herpers, free handlers, etc….its all one unit. Many venomous keepers take the position, free handling is to unsafe, no one should do it. Many Pythons keepers take the position that keeping hots is to unsafe, no one should do it. Just like the python keeper has no right to tell you that you can’t keep a hot, you have no right to tell people they can not free hand. Some will make the case, free handing causing bites and will lead to more legislation. Sorry, that does not hold water. Recent legislation, WA state and New York City for example, do not outlaw the keeping of venomous snakes, it outlaws the keeping of dangerous animals, which includes harmless boas. If you have the right to tell someone they can not free hand cause it may lead to you not being able to keep your hot, then the boa keeper has every right to tell you that you can not keep your hot cause it will lead to him not be able to keep his boa. I hope everyone can see this point. You have the right to do as you want in this nation so long as you are not infringing on the rights of others. Everyone has a right to voice an opinion. If you think Jeremy and Phillip are too young to be working with hots, feel free to tell them. But if they choose to do it anyway, they are still a part of the venomous community. You may not like some other members free handing, feel free to tell them, but if they do it anyway, they are still a part of the venomous community. Same with voids, field collecting, color morphs, etc. We are small in number and we must exist in a spirit of unity and segregation.

I see Chuck....So this is my fault now. As I said the whole point Chuck, was to point out stupid things that people do with their Hot snakes that causes bad publicity. I didn't single them out because I wanted to take them to task. I was told about the pictures and was outraged that adults were willing participants. You Chuck WERE a participant...and this is my fault. YOU failed as a responsable adult protecting these kids placed in your care. Don't give me the I'm dissapointed in the way you carried yourself crap...Chuck. You should be ashamed of yourself for allowing it to happen..You have a mouth..you failed to use it then but you found it now to critisize me for doing the right thing speaking up, stopping something that's wrong across the board in THIS community. Chuck if your not part of the solution, your part of the problem.

i dont see the debate here, the fact is that jeremy and phillip are going to do this stuff, and no one here is going to stop them. granted maybe the adult should have dissuaded them but could he really put his foot down and tell them no? however if the kids are going to do this they need to do it in the privacy of there own home, and not post pics of it on profiles. couldnt a moderator control them putting pics like that on the profile? i know on other sites there are regulations on what a pic can contain on your profile.

i dont think anyone minds someone posing with a hot, but the picture displayed should show the keeper holding the snake in a safe manner. either properly restrained or safely riding a hook.

Actually, Chuck let both of these minors hold his hots in his snake room, and he is in the pics. They are in the site member photos. In this particular incident he was the adult and he could have said no. After all they were in his snake room. Im not going to judge but I would not be letting a 14 year old handle my hots much less photograph it, and let it be put on a site where I was a manager.

My mom was there and she was fine with it. I was 15 at the time. I go catching the same snakes all the time in the wild. I would rather be bit there then in a swamp in South Ga. My mom takes almost all of the pictures with me holding venomous snakes.

Well Al,
Of course it's your fault...you can't understand that? (note sarcasm) You are one of only a small handful of people that have posted here in the last couple days that knows what the word responsibility means. Let alone the responsibility that goes with knowing what it means.
Al, you did the right thing and if people get all bent out of shape over it...I say tough!
You said things that needed to be said. I hope you stick to your guns (and try to keep your sanity at the same time) There are a lot of people here that are in total agreement.
