what size enclosure would you use for a 40" speciman and what would be the math for figuring out what size enclosure on different size snakes

I like to try to make the cage as long as the snake. Of couse that be impossible with large boas and pythons, but with most of the snakes I keep its a good rule of thumb up to around 4 or 5 feet.
