I was reading that the earliest known snake is Lapparentophis defrennei, found on what is now North Africa.(It was terrestrial). Does anyone know if this is still the earliest know, or have they recently found one older? The book I got this from is a few years old.

Hi Jeremy Lapparentophis was found in the lower cretaceous in algeria and yes was terrestrail . It is the oldest snake known yet but they think they might have found one in spain the problem is they don't know if its a lizard or a snake because their isn't enough of the animal to tell what it really is . So untill further studies reveal what it is yeh Lapparentophis is the oldest snake known , or at least i know . other old snakes include the hind limbed snakes such as pachyrachis and related snakes.
anyway hope this helps
talk to me on msn when ever ya can .
