I recently purchased a baby blood python. The previous owner said that it has not eaten for almost 2 months. It appears to be healthy with no weight loss, has a blood python temper, and stays in its water bowl all the time. He has the proper housing for a blood, and I am curious how I should go about feeding him. Or do bloods have spells where they just have no interest in rodents. Should I force feed?? All replys are greatly welcome. Thanks alot... Bryan

Hi, I wouldn't force feed him yet. If he shows no weight loss and still has his nasty temper then he's probably just going through a spell. I have a canebrake that is doing the same. Don't worry. Give him a little more time. Sometimes it does more harm to force feed them than to do nothing. I know this may not be much help but I just wanted to say that force feeding should be a last resort. good luck.

I would hold up on the force feeding but be prepared it is a most certain option I have had a lot of problems like this one your having, my question to you is how are you trying to feed the snake bloods don’t do very well in new environments to begin with I would take a dark colored towel and completely black out the cage for a week or two to properly acclimate the snake they are very shy animals, and after that offer a pre killed animal just lay it in front of the snake and walk away don’t watch unless at a distance, these snakes are not like other pythons you cant bob a rat on there head and get a feeding response you will most likely scare the snake making it harder on you, now I understand your concerns but these snakes can go a really long time with out eating but all else fails e mail me and Ill help you with force feeding because that has specific techniques and problem's of its own.
Best of luck.

If he doesn't eat for a few more months I suggest getting a fecal sample and go to the vet. See if it has any internal parasites. They are preety common.
