No, King cobras do not spit venom. They are your typical elapid with fixed fangs and a neurotoxic venom. Strong enough to kill a small elephant. Got to love an elapid that will chase you with an open mouth and fixed fangs. Kind of the way I like my American men.lol, just kidding. I hope this is useful info to you.

King cobras do not spit venom. However, juvenile Naja sumatrana can look fariyl similar and do spit. They become more or less uniformly black (with a lighter head) as adults.
How big was that banded cobra specimen? How many bands did it have around the body?
Cheers,
WW

Hi, sounds like juvenile Naja sumatrana - the single V-shaped band on the back of the neck is one of the characteristics of that species. Normally, they have 10-15 light bands around the body and 4-6 around the tail. king cobras would have far more. Like I said, this description applies to juvenile Naja sumatrana, usually under 50-60 cm. If yours was much larger, than we'l go back to "king".
Cheers,
WW
