How do you check the sex of a sulcota tortoise? Is it by the shell form? eye color? Have a sulcota, aobut 8 inched from front to back. Just let me know if you have the wisdom. Thank you and may Buddha bless you.

These Folks ( http://www.sulcata-station.org/ ) have this to say about sex in young sulcata tortoises.
"It is very difficult to determine the sex of a sulcata that is less than 10 to 15 pounds, or less than 12 inches in shell length. In fact, most sulcata owners *don't* know what sex their tortoise is until they witness it laying eggs, or everting its penis, or attempting to mount other tortoises. In mature sulcata, the anal scutes of a male generally form a wider angle than the anal scutes of a female, but this may not be 100 percent reliable. (The anal scutes are the two plates on the sulcata's bottom shell [plastron] that are located just in front of its tail.)" JohnZ
