Has anyone else heard about the six year old who died trying to save a turtle on a busy road. I think it was in Texas or somewhere else outwest. That is very sad about her and I couldn't image what the parents must think.

The story is at http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_1717908,00.html
It is really bad, but the mother should have been more carefull. She should have left the kid in the car, and got out herself and rescued the turtle. A first grader just does not have the experience to be safe in a situation like that. JohnZ

Or, the mother and child should have kept driving if the turtle was on a busy road. And not try to save it. I love reptiles just as much as anyone else, but saving a turtle on a BUSY road is not worth a human life. That one accident could have caused more than 1 human death. It is a sad story.

I have reasued several reptiles and other animals on some of the busiest roads. My trick is to wait until there is at least one clear lane.

I just got back from FL and I seen many road kill herps out there. Seem like people try to hit them out there, got several cottonmouth's off 41 and let them go in the everglades.
