Are there any special permits that are required for road cruising in Texas. Probably should have asked this question in the begining. Thanks for your help.

depending on where you are and who the game warden is determines your road cruising success. Some wardens will give out tickets if you stop and collect a reptile off the road calling it "road hunting". Most of the time the wardens are very helpful and interested in your "odd" hobby. Some even know good places to hunt. Be careful and remember when asked "you collect from the rock cuts":)

If the warden does try to cite you, there is, in fact, an addendum to the "no hunting from the road" law which makes it legal for hunting herps as long as you are not blocking traffic or being dangerous. Just be courtious (spelling?) when talking to the warden and if he doesn't believe you, just wait and talk to the TP&W office when you get home.
