Hi,
Long time no ask !!...was watching the Most Dangerous shows this weekend, and was wondering what you guys thought of Mr Stevens, he seems to be pretty damn mad..holding a very VERY big king cobra...i wolda thought any highly venomous snake that is that large would be impossible to free handle...whadda u think ??

I say he's good entertainment for someone who knows better, but a bad influence on youngsters and people new to venomous.

Ian to answer your question. King Cobras are freehandleable just not advisable. I know several people who have handled them on regular bases for many years and in fact I know of one King that will flip out if you hook it but to hand manipulate it is fine. Again something I would not suggest.
As to Austin, He is just like any other TV personality. RATINGS SELL! So ofcourse he is going to do whatever it takes to get them including freehandling. I know the particular episode your talking about and from seeing many imported kings my personal bet is that snake was someones animal from a personal collection. Reason 1 very very large king, 2 very healthy and clean appearance.

i saw him trip on a vine and land smack on a lance head cant remember exactly point is he is working in controlled as possible circumstances entertainment if you want to see what a snake bite from poisinous or boids etc does but this is all about entetainment and that he is good at.
