This subject is a slang...but is meant also literally. There is an ad in the Classifieds marked with a question mark, posted July 3rd. When I looked at the "bigger" picture, it states the TSHS meeting...maybe I'm wrong, but is that the Tri-State Herpetological Society?
I know in WV and some other remote areas, they have churches where "holy rollers" pick up serpents, these are typically venomous...but this pick?
Man, this is WAY OUT THERE.
Can anyone tell me the need to pick up a puff in this fashion?
Troubled,
Matt

I know the guy who did that and he is a snake handling preacher. I wouldnt criticize him for it because that is his religion and he isnt just doing it to shock people. And yes, that Puff was fully fanged and venomous. Have you ever looked into the religion? Im not criticizing you but you should do some studying on the religion before you make a final judgement.

Dadee, I was trying to word that so that it wouldnt sound sarcastic but I couldnt. Please dont take any offence to what I said. I was just wanting you to do alittle reading about the religion(If you already havent) and I am sure it will be interesting to you at least. Its hard to word things on the net without sounding sarcastic. Again, please dont take any offense to what I said.

It figures Jeremy! People have been killing & repressing in the the name of religion since the begining, so why not handle venomous snakes. It still does not make it right. Handling a Timber and getting away with it is one thing. Just a matter of time before the Puff gets him.
Who's gonna provide the A/V when he gets nailed? A Zoo is going to have to dip into their supplies to save this idiot. Oh, if he refuses A/V, then it's not going to be an issue, out of the Gene pool for him.
If your not part of the solution your part of the problem.

When religious snake handlers get bitten, they generally refuse any kind of treatment otherwise that would defeat the whole purpose. I have heard of religious handlers that have been bitten and nearly died and still refused treatment, I have also heard of some that refused treatment and died. I would like to add that I know very little about religious snake handling and I am not the right guy to answer any questions about it.

I would call him an idiot. Just my opinion. If you played "Russian Roulette" as a religious activity I would call you an idiot too. You can hide behind religious beliefs only to a point, then your mental state comes into question.

Righto Al. People are nutty enough handling Ags and Crotes to appease their religious fervor, but whipping out lethal exotics? I'm not trying to criticize this little sect of Christianity, but come on, these people are off their rockers. I'm not a Christian, but isn't there a tenet somewhere that says something about not tempting one's faith? Anyway, saying that actions like these are okay because if the person is bitten, he/she will not seek medical attention, doesn't mean anything. Even if they try not to, it's very likely someone's going to call 911 if the person falls on the ground in convulsions or stops breathing. It only takes one little whisper, then every local and then nationwide news source starts talking about how horrible it is that these "foreign poisonous snakes" are even attainable by anyone other than zoos, and there we go again on another whirlwind of new laws. Please don't make excuses for someone's stupid actions in the name of their religion.
And by the way, Jeremy, if you wish to keep up with the good will and comradery you're trying to instill into the venomous community here on the SHHS webpage, comments like that brief little ditty you made above certainly won't help. Try not to appear so bi-polar. If you're going to be a good guy, then be one. Keep your anger under control. Otherwise, you're doing no good by anyone.

i got severely bashed for starting this topic up a few years ago.......i still think it's dumb.......religion or not, it's dumb and i HAVE looked into it......it makes less sense than the other religions, and that's saying a lot....
i still don't get why it's ok to get prescription glasses so you can see but not antivenom, that's just too funny IMO......
