can anyone tell me if it is illegal to feed live mice in England as i was just told that to be convicted there has to be proof of neglect and or pain and suffering caused to the animal by yourself obviously if you put it in you are willingly doing so but the snake delivers the final blow not blaming the snake but say one got out in your house and killed the cat is that then the same thing.

i have no clue about the laws, but it seems that they'd have a hard time proving that a FEEDER mice was mistreated during the process of FEEDING it to a snake
and mice are like snakes, not a lot of people will make a stand for them......as long as they're kept in human conditions, fed and watered, and then simply fed to the snake, i don't see how they could label you as an inhumane person

In england it is illegal to feed live vertabrate prey under the cruelty to animals act , the snake does give the final blow but it can be avoided by you. so you should nt give a snake live food here not that you would get caught . For more info on english laws on animals check it out on the net go on google and look up cruelty to animals act and so on.
cheers

So, unless you buy prekilled food, you gotta whack the mouse up side the head. That makes a lot of sense! Kind of like some of our US laws huh?

yep its stupid i certainly dont blame the snake no way but id rather boost the snakes well being by feeding live than have to smack a mouse about the head b4 i feed them but yep it is a real stupid law that needs looking at but im sure all will remain the same as there r to many "anti" people and they can argue about the reasons not to feed live all day. so whats best anyway breeding and tryin not to get caught or kill your own
. i can buy frozen and will continue to do so as i dont want to breed my own smell pit ive got my bedroom 4 that seriously though so whats best to do enlightend ones. bif u happen to be live feeding for example. cheers kieron.

So how are the mice killed before they are frozen? Are they frozen alive or euthanized with CO2? I try to tell people that are upset by having to "whack" a mouse, that either way, the end will be unpleasant for the mouse. Freezing, suffucation, and bitten and constriction take a bit longer. Out of all of the methods, freezing alive is probably cruelist.

I'm not trying to argue. I just think its funny that the law is like that. Makes me feel better that us Americans aren't the only ones with strangely written laws.
We have one in my state where it is illegal to buy, sell or trade box turtles, but you can catch a wild one and keep it.
Some of these laws I are probably written with good intent, but still defeat the purpose.
Guess that's why I'm not a lawyer.

i know you didn't write the law, and whether you agree with it or not is a non-issue, but if they are truly protecting animals from "unnecessary" suffering, then how do they validate using an automobile to get from point a to point b? they kill birds and rodents and even larger mammals EVERY day.....humans have been around WITHOUT machines much longer than with them....is it just unavoidable or are they just making a law that affects herpers? feeding a predator an animal that it would prey on in the wild can in NO way be considered unnecessary.....it's just another case of "we don't like snakes and we can make laws to affect them and their keepers"
if only snakes could grow fur and a couple of legs or wings or something, they'd be loved like chinchillas are
