I was down there a few weeks ago. The area is very flooded at the moment. Most of the good sand roads are still very flooded. I ended up seeing two alive snakes on the trip one cottonmouth and one banded water snakes. It was very hot when I went down there. I also saw a lot of DOR including 1 EDB, 1 racer, 1 cottonmouth, 5 banded water snakes, and 1 garter snake.

If you don't mind me asking, what sand roads can we ride there? I am just retired, new to the area and have been looking for some good areas to see herps.

I was there for the summer trip I always do. It was two weeks ago. And I was down there for 6 days. Their are a lot of good sand and paved roads down in that area. I will email you tell you several spots.

Poaching is only if you are in the bondaries of the park and none of those spots are in the park. So its free game. Besides I don't consider it poaching as long as your are not taking a endangered specimen or killing a specimen.

Or collecting illegally - which would include taking any nonvenomous without a permit - no matter whether you're in the park or not.
Also, park rangers will search your vehicle if they observe hook or bag in your vehicle.
