I was recently bitten by a rattlesnake in the face, just below the (L)eye. After i was bitten I got very weak, felt sick, thought i was going to lose my bowels&tingled all over,i felt tremendous pressure on my skull, then i had a seizure(blacked out)and went into shock. My face swelled up imediately after the bite& venom was oozing out of the wound.I received no anti venom. The so called doctor didn't believe i was bitten. i now have what seems to be a permanant black eye, with internal tissue damage. any recomendations for a competant doctor in this field or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What part of the country/state were you in? What was the species? How big was the snake? How long ago was the bite?

PS - I cropped your photo and re-uploaded it to the snakebite photo album.

The hemotoma would go along with a bite like that and should go away with time. I was told to take prednisone after to help deal with the protien. I'm surprised you didn't get antivenin, most docs in north america want to give huge doses nomatter what snake bites you. Looks like you got lucky, bites to the face are very dangerous. I would ask Dr. Fry for his advise, or check with the Miami venom unit to see if they can direct you to a doc with snake bite exp.

it doesn't look like a snakebite to me. it looks like a black eye caused by a fall. it even has abrasions that with friction lines going in the same direction. while there is bruising, there isn't a hemmorhagic bleb at the point of injection. the swelling is almost non-existent. call me skeptical. give us a better closeup and show me the fang marks.

I was in San Diego near MCAS Miramar. It happened on June 13th 11:30a.m. The snake took off and I really didn't get a chance to look at it. I got out of that box pretty fast.I wish I knew. the Doctor gave me an EKG my heart rate was 40 bpm, I can't remember my blood pressure. They gave me an x-ray and said my eye socket wasn't fractured. No antivenom was given.

Are you sure that wasnt a skateboarding accident? That looks like a skate park. Also the skate boarding Tobaggon you have on. Thats a bad bite though. I agree, with the other posters, check with BGF or the Miami Unit.

If you had been envenomated hard enough to have those symptoms son, trust me, you would be far worse off then the little black-eye you have there. LOL, Look for attention elsewhere please.

I know what it was. Someone sent him one of those joke boxes. You know, the ones that have a little fist with a boxing glove on it that pops out like a jack in the box and hit him in the eye. It sounds like a rattlesnake when the box is open to startle the victim. Thats all it was. Nothing to worry about.

Well said AquaHerp...That type of bruising would come well after the horrific tissue damage, which means his eye would be lying in some medical students sample tray.
