Rockhound submitted a photo of a snake eating a gold fish from pond near Denver, Colorado.
Most likely, the snake is a Plains Garter Snake (Thamnophis radix) or a Wandering Garter Snake ( Thamnophis elegans vagrans), as both are found in that area, and both look similar to the photo, and both are known to eat pond fish.
Unfortunatly, the quality of the photo is just not detailed enough for me to tell for sure which variety it is.
Perhaps one of our members who lives in that area and who is more familiar with all the color / pattern diferences of these snakes will be able to offer more help, despite the blurry photo.
Hope this helps some. JohnZ

Shaun: Thats a good photo you found, and a kool web site. I did not know that Colorado even had a Herpetological Society! Really does look like the goldfish eating snake.
Best Regards JohnZ
