Hi guys,
I was thinking of getting a copperhead in the near future(probably in october). I`ll probably get one in a trade... Could you give me some tips on caging, handeling etc. ? Anticipated thanks...
Best regards, Alex S.

In my experience most are very well mannered and will stay on a hook pretty well. Now their are exceptions. I have one that is completely insain and is a pain to work with. If I even walk into the room he will start musking, rattling his tail, and strike at me through the glass. If you look under articles you can find several caresheets for them.

Hey Alex, since you don't live in the U.S., are you refering to U.S. copperheads as in Agkistrodon c. contortrix? Or the Australian copperhead,Austrelaps superbus.2 completely different animals.I'm sure your aware of this, but here in the states,we sometimes forget that theres an elapid out there called a copperhead also.If your referring to agkistrodon,Mardi Snipes wrote a good piece in the articles section of this website called "Copperhead Basics" that should get you started. They're great snakes, I currently have 5 in my collection.Marty

ive found that the southern copperhead is the most well mannered out of all of the subspecies, the other ones are downright nasty, with the exception of the osage.

I currently have 3.3 Agkistrodon c. pictigaster and 1.1 Agkistrodon c. laticinctus all of which are great captives, they eat well, hook well and are relatively mild mannered. The pictigaster are my favorites, however, all coppers are fantastic animals, somewhat downplayed by many herpers. Incidentally, anything by Mardi Snipes is, and should be, highly regarded.
