I had 24 Vipera ammodytes ammodytes from 2 gravid females. I also had 11 Natrix natrix persa hatchlings and 10 Coluber caspius. I`m now waiting on my 2 V.a. montandoni to give birth. Also had 9 Vipera berus babyes in july. It was a very good year. I`ll be realesing all my babies where they belong, in the wild next spring. Till then, I want to get them nice and fat.
Best regards, Alex S.

What Alex said about releasing some of the newly born snakes back into the wild is very important. When you remove a gravid female snake from its habitat, you are actually removing many snakes, as it is the female, and all of the young. So, that gravid female could represent 5, 10, or 20 snakes removed from the habitat. Please make the effort to release most of the young back into the wild. If you want to keep some of them to study and learn, that is fine, just do not over do it. Try to not think of all those little copperheads or rattlesnakes as a cash cow you can profit from at the next reptile show. If you want to make money from breeding snakes, do ball pythons or something, but if the animals are native, then it is important to release most of the young back into the habitat where they were found.
