Does anyone have any info about the south florida rainbow snake? I have heard that only 3 specimins have ever been recorded. I have also heard that they are thought to be extinct. I just want info to expand my knowledge on this species. Thank you.

Jeremy: You are right about the South Florida Rainbow Snake, it is extremely rare, and possibly extinct. The most information I have read about it is on page 185 of Alan Tennant`s Field Guide to Snakes of North America.
Many years ago I saw one of the three known specimins at Ross Allen`s Reptile Institute.
I once hunted that area of Florida, but did not see any signs of that snake there.
I would be willing to bet there are still a few of these snakes out there, but their secretive habits, and the difficulty of hunting in that area probably make it very unlikely that many others will be found.
It would be fun to look for them in that area though. You might get lucky and see one at night on the road during heavy rain storms, or you might be able to catch one in a trap baited with a siren.
I have found a few of the common rainbow snake over the years while road cruising during the worst of thunder storms in the middle of the night.
