does anyone have any idea what this could be. I had the rock python out bfore and noticed that he had a couple of tiny little lumps on his back. There hard to describe. its like someone a pricked it with a pin. They dont appear to be parasites or tics of any kind so i do not really have a clue as i have not seen it on any of my other snakes ever. Thanks alot Aaron

They are most likely caused by some sort of paracyte, most of them can be microscopic, so you would not be able to see/identify them with the unaided eye.

I had caught black rat snake 2 summers ago. He ate good with no mites. One day, I got him out of his cage, and his whole body had these bumps all over him. I had no idea what they were, so I turned him loose. I thought maybe it was stress. I didnt know. So, the guy was set free. I only had him for about 2 weeks in captivity. Bryan

It is next to impossible to diagnose your reptiles' ailment by verbally describing its condition. It would be helpful to post pics. I suggest taking the animal to a reptile vet to get a definative answer than getting multiple diagnoses here.

Probably parasites. It is very common for pet shop animals to have them. It is a good idea to quarantine new animals for at least 90 days before bringing them into your collection. If you have other snakes they probably now have them as well. I would use Reptile Relief from Natural Chemistry to treat the animals and Provent-a-mite to treat the enclosures. Without seeing the animal I can't say definitively it has parasites, but it is a strong possibility. A trip to the vet would remove all doubt.
good luck,
Andrew

Your snake has developed what is commonly referred to as "blister disease". It is found in boids (boas and pythons) that are housed in cages where humidity levels are too high, usually as a result of using a damp substrate. Also, it can develope if the cage is not continually kept clean. Microscopic bacteria and molds tend to grow which causes skin irritation. Soon afterwards, little bumps appear under the surface of the skin due to sub-cutaneous infection. The only solution to correct this problem is to first remove the substrate that you are currently using and replace with newspaper. Make sure that the cage has plenty of ventilation. You should apply a topical solution of either hydrogen peroxide or Betadine to the infected area once per day. It is important that you change the newspaper frequently to keep the cage as clean and dry as possible. Drinking water should always be available for the snake as it will tend to dehydrate rapidly when fighting any infections. After approximately 2 to 3 weeks of treatment, the bumps should start to disappear. I hope this information helps you out. Good luck with your snake!!

Az I cant help much more than has already been said can you post the humidity, temps etc , also get free herp availiable in the reviews section then you can monitor all aspects of treatment, It certainly sounds parasitic, check the shop that he is from for other boids pythons with bumps, and also independantly check the humidity and temperature of several enclosures, they wont like it! but it is your right to question there husbandry, hope the previous posted reply works for him but be careful with any medication, if u can get him to a vet asap, hope he comes through KEYZ.
