Just a quick FYI for everyone who is interested -
I saw and collected my first EDB on April 9th in Jacksonville Beach in a gated community off of A1A. I'm guessing that this guy can't be more than a couple of weeks old. He's feeding well and is the most vivid yellow EDB that I have ever seen in north Florida.
I also caught a very odd yelloow rat snake at a brush fire last week in St. Augustine. I was working back in the burned out area and hit a stump to extinguish a small flare up and out he came. ABC 25 was there and got the whole thing on film so I made my television news debut that night.
I say he's odd because he's the only grey "yellow" rat snake that I have ever seen, grey eyes and all. I read that there are some Grey Rat x Yellow Rat intergrades that are found that look like this guy but according to all of my reading and asking around, we don't get Grey Rat snakes this far to the east. Maybe they're moving?
Anyway, everyone is awake and moving about now! Let the games begin!!!
Matt

Matt,
Jacksonvile is not that far from the Okefenokee Swamp and I have found several Grey Rats in that area so they could easily be there too.

Matt: Just a little heads-up/reminder: EDB's from north Florida may well have a higher content of cyto-toxins in their venom & can be harder to treat. Stay safe, my friend.
