Ok,
At the moment I am a student and dotting around all over the place, so keeping herps is not really fair on them (apart from the family tortoise - who says hello!), hence my current lack.
However, I am planning ahead already for what to think about getting once I am more settled. As for herps, I have done a little handling but not much more in terms of keeping (hence the research!). I am not planning on running into big scary snakes etc. already, I think I know my limits, but I would love some ideas for species I can do research on for possibly getting in the future - either lizards or snakes. I am in the UK if that makes any difference, must find more experience!
Thank you in advance!

Thank you for directing me to your other post, I think my message was a little misunderstood.
As for working with reptiles, it is something I am currently looking into doing and I am trying to find some work in this area.
However, this was more about recreational keeping of reptile, and ideal first species. But thank you, your other ideas have been very much appreciated!

I apologize...after re-reading your post it made perfect sense (I must have been reading it with my eyes closed:-)! If you need any advice on certain species to keep once you are ready please don't hesitate to let me know. Good luck with all of your efforts.

Thats fine hon, really! I do that often!
Since you are an expert in herps, do you know (or know someone) who knows much about terrapins? I know a family who own 2 (currently trying to get a species name out of them!) but are concerned as to how much they should be feeding them. They have had conflicting advice so I said I would see what I could find out!
