Chris, sounds like you had a good time at the show !
Matamata turtles are really fun to keep.
Wish I could have attended.

I made it home with only a couple of geckos (R.chahoua), t-shirts and two books. Turn out seemed heavy although some notable, mostly hot dealers were absent. They are building a new building behind the existing expo center and rumor has it that it will be avaiable next year and used for the expo (both buildings). I heard there was a waiting list of 60 vendors that did not get a spot this year.

i think that the turnout was awesome, a friend of mine made several thousand dollars with like 20 turtles. oh and i finally saw a $100,000 snake, i think it was a albino emerald green tree boa or something along those lines, i wonder if the guy sold it?

Todd,
turnout was about average or maybe a just little light compared to previous years.
There were several of the "venomous crowd" there.
It was good to meet Paul Moody, Bart (horridus), Eric Marquette and all the rest who came up and introduced themselves. I am not one to wander through the crowd introducing myself to strangers but if someone were to recognize me and walk up, I don't think I have ever shunned anyone.
Mardi Snipes was there, Dr. Herrington, EJ Pirog, Matt Crews, Sam Seasholl DVM, and so many others who passed by and said "Hi". We had a blast hanging out at the Midwest table and as usual The Boss sold "a mess" of their equipment.
I spoke with Russ Case from Reptiles magazine and Jeff Barringer from kingsnake dot com. There were representatives from the Central Florida Zoo, Atlanta Zoo and Jacksonville Zoo mingling in the crowd. Some of the world's leading turtle/tortoise experts were there as well as endangered rock iguana experts. There were even people from the Rosy Boa crowd that I affiliate with (mostly online) who came up and introduced themselves.
Wayne Hill didn't talk much about it but I doubt that the venomous show will be returning to Daytona any time in the near future. I personally think that keeping the number of venomous shows down to a minimum will force them to become better shows. I hope that Columbia stands the test of time. The Boss and I look forward to being able to attend future venomous shows once I have retired from the Navy and have gotten my next job.
Karl
PS We wound up with a male Honduran Milk Snake (to fill out our 1.2), 1.1 Red-footed Tortoises (new enclosure I need to build), a multitude of t-shirts and several captive care and field guide books. KHB
