hi! i live in bastrop louisiana and i am having a major problem on finding any kind of snakes at all. I've searched and searched but yet i can't seem to find anything everytime i look. We just had a major rain here last night and i was wondering if this would help my chances on finding some since it has been so hot and dry for the past few weeks? Please if anyone knows tips or anything that might help me, please let me know because i'm itching to get out there and find some herps!
Thanks,
ryan

more people tend to respond to you if you fill out your profile,it seems to be a trend.
try looking in small freshwater pools, if you find lizards turtles and fish, there are snakes near by. what kind of snake are you looking for, do a little research and find the areas where they like to hang out, for exsample, i wouldn't go looking for a cottonmouth in a dry pine forest, they like swamps.

well i've got a semi-swampy pond behind my house. Would that be a good place for cotton mouths? Also i've got a pretty good sized limb pile that has a lot of dead tree limbs and old dry leaves and some pine needles too.....would this be a good place for a certain type of snake? (maybe copper heads or anything like that)
