Could anyone tell me or tell me where I could get the scale counts of all the subspecies of copperhead. I have 2 in my area supposedly (northern and southern) but would like to know which one is which. Plus I have a trio of broadbands and just want to check.
thanks in advance.

Michael, the best up to date source for the information you are looking for is ``Snakes of the Agkistrodon Complex,`` by Howark K. Gloyd and Roger Conant.
Page 20 lists the Ventral Scale Counts.
Page 22 lists the Subcaudal Scale Counts.
Page 23 lists the Undivided Subcaudal Scale Counts.
Page 24 lists the Midbody Scale Counts.
Page 25 lists the Infralabial and Supralabial Scale Counts.
Page 27 lists the number of Body Blotches and Crossbands.
Page 28 lists the Tail Length Variations.
Depending on where you live, the info might or might not help, as there is such a huge area of intigradation in the Copperheads.
Way to much info to post here.
If you can not find a copy of the book, or can not find the info on the web, eMail me your mailing address, and I will Xerox the pages and drop them in the snail-mail to you.
Hope this helps. Best Regards JohnZ

John hit the nail on the head - Gloyd and Conant are THE source for info. The liklihood that you have pure Northern and Southern is nil. You most likely have integrade.

Thanks guys. It probably is a cross but I just wanted to check. I found my first in the wild Thursday morning. It has a really wild pattern just wanted to know for sure. I found the book but buying it will have to wait. Wife is fresh out of nursing school and we are on a tight budget until we get caught up. If anyone can tell me how to post pics here i will post this one as soon as It sheds. fully opaque now.
