Herp collectors around Austin, Tx. would really enjoy Tim Cole's Austin Reptile Show at the Wingate Hotel conferance Room in Round Rock, on the northbound IH35 feeder Road north of 79. Although there weren't any "hots", there were as many or more non-venemous than the San Antonio Show. I went today and found the place absolutely mobbed. I'm glad snake interests are alive and well in Austin, Tx., the music capital of the world.

Yea Ricky,
Austin Rocks. You can go way out in the country, like 70 miles outside of Austin, and stop at tiny little gin mills along almost any seemingly untraveled road, with just a few locals at the bar and listen to live music that is unbeleivably fine. And any genre you can think off.
I originally came down here in 1989 with my 5 kids from New Jersey. While up in New Jersey, I would follow the good C&W and Blue Grass bands that I liked. From time to time the real good lead guitar players or an awesome mandolin player would let everyone know he/she was going to Austin and not coming back because they were so good. Well...they were usually back in two weeks. I think the longest was six weeks. And they wouldn't even talk about the experiance. I blew it off because I didn't know anything about Austin music because I had never been there.
Once I came down here, I understood why. The best in N.Y./N.J. area couldn't find a job down here because they couldn't play good enough. We have musicians playing for tips that are only 2 clicks behind Stevie Ray Vaughan (sp). or Doc Watson.
I spent two years in Clark, Ky. at Fort Campbell and would take a Greyhound into Nashville almost every weekend. It was good, back in '68-69'. I would go to the Ryanman Auditorium on Saturday night and watch the Grand Ole Opry live. Man, that was beyond cool. But Nashville kinda only had country. It was the best, actually quite a bit better than Austin, but Austin has more types of music.
I like Zedago (cajun) music alot. Those little squeeze boxes they play and the way the whole bands just gets into it is crazy. So back in July I got a wild hair and decided to truck over to Louisiana (sp) and listen to major Zedago. It's not that far from Texas. I traveled along route 10 and drank at a bunch of different places and got really ripped. All along the way I asked people where the best bands were and they all said, "down in Austin".
Besides, you know we're good when we have Kinky Freidman running for governor with Willy Nelson as his energy secretary.
Talk with you later,
Blain
