For everyone that returned my answer, thank you. I wasnt planning on getting one for a few years, until i get some more experiance and a mentor. Im going to try to volunteer at the zoo like someone said in the reptile department. My mom supports my interest in my reptiles, my dad did but he isnt here anymore(he past away 3years ago). And like someone also said im going to check if i have an abundent supply of anit venom around close. I have a good friend, and my boss, he worked with them and many other venomous a while ago. Im going to work with my rattlesnakes for now. And thanks again for everyones input, and you realy MADE ME THINK of alot of things, before i get them IF I DO, i need to get a new reptile room. thanks alot guys

It's a good choice for now. You have your whole life ahead of you, don't rush it. Sorry to hear about your father. Take your time and be safe.

Mike,
I am glad to hear your decision. You showed alot of maturity in reaching it. Don't ever feel like you were being bashed about wanting to get a cobra... Alot of us here heard the same thing when we came to cross that bridge. It's the same now as it was then. The older more experienced hot-keepers just want to keep this hobby legal and especially don't want anyone one new getting hurt or bringing negative attention to our already misunderstood hobby.
Good luck in all your future herp related endeavors.

just by seeing your classified ads and then the cobra thing, it seems like you're just really getting into hots and it's easy to go overboard with this hobby and end up with more animals than you can take care of and/or animals you simply can't handle.......you will experience these highs and you'll experience lows where you may feel like getting out of it altogether, trading, just bored, etc...........just take it easy, use the little rattler to get everything perfected, from simply giving it fresh water to maintaining it's health, etc.......
it's easy when things are all fine, but when you have 30 snakes and a couple get a parasite or quit eating to the point that you're concerned, etc, it can be hectic.......i have about 40 snakes now and i'm at full capacity.....i've had to give up other things to give them the time they deserve because they ARE living creatures.....i quit working out regularly, gave up my video games, etc........i have to give time to my family too.......so even though 3 or 4 snakes may seem simple, remember, you're 17 and life IS simple compared to what it may be like in just 3 or 4 years and that abundance of free time may disappear......and listen to EVERYONE and come up with your own conclusions....there are people from both end of the spectrums (those who do it ALL by the book and those who simply do it how they want to do it lol)....good luck......i've wanted a king cobra for years, but i can't legally keep one and even if i did, what consequences would a bite have? the deterrent for me is not being able to support my family and the financial consequences of a bad bite.....not to mention the obvious chance of death.....
