I found some eggs in my garden in Chicago and I'm having a horrible time trying to identify them. They are approx. 2 inches long, leathery, and a purple/mauve color. I'm not sure how many there are, because I didn't want to disturb them any more than possible. I thought that they were snake eggs because of the leathery shell, but I'm finding out that snake eggs are generally white... Any ideas? Thanks!!

Sounds like eastern box turtle eggs!!!! put an x on the top of them before removing and put them in 12in of cypress mulch, misting 3 times a day and see what you get. Just remember to what ever side is up (UP)
