"i new what i was doing and they are a very slow striking snake, like amazon tree boas"
If you knew what you were doing and needed to check it's scales, you would have tubed it. And the fact that you said they are a very slow striking snake shows your inexperience and lack of respect for that snake. They are nothing like amazon tree boas.

So arboreal vipers are slow strikers huh? If that is a squam you are so wrong it isnt even funny! You do realize both arboreal viperades/crotalids and arboreal boids all specialize in catching prey that is extreamly fast and in the case of boids that is somtimes flying!! How can you make that statement when these animals are all known to snag birds in mid air!!!! You CAN NOT recat quicker then they do!
BTW, before you start spouting off about how much you know arboreal vipers please keep in mind that you are talking to somone who has worked with every species of Atheris, many Trimeresurus (or formaly known anyway)bothrechis and was trained under two of the leading arboreal viper folks in the country!!!
Ok, im done with this. Any chance of taking your maturity seriously has been tossed out the window. For you to make claims about these type of snakes like you did and completely disregard the words from someone who has worked with arboreals for 8 yrs means you will never except my advise or anyone elses.
I pray that you dont get bit but more importantly that you dont ruin the right for "qualified" keepers in your area to keep their animals.

This is wonderful entertainment!...minus the swearing (I can envision diapers flying all over the place). After giving my 50th reptile lecture/program in the past two weeks this has been a nice escape...hilarious. If I could understand just a few of the things that are being "written" (boy I use that word loosely in this thread) I might actually understand what certain folks are trying to communicate.
Seriously, though, this thread just continues to validate my point that some young people (okay, most) are just not mentally or physically "fit" to keep hots. Plain and simple. I can reel off a handful of exceptional teenagers who could responsibly keep them but they are so responsible that they know that it would be irresponsible to keep them at a young age. Did I add any more fuel to the fire, will this keep going?....world record reptile forum thread!! Call Guiness! Nah, too many scrolls to get to the end. Time to move on. Certain people just need to take a step back, take a deep breath, do a little soul searching and realize that most of us are actually here to help as long as a certain level of respect is shown to those who have been in the field/hobby for a while. Personally, I think that if someone uses abusive language on this website, they oughta be banned from coming here.
Well, I've got an Echis coloratus with a stuck eye cap. I sure hope he sits still while I gently lift the cap off with my fingers...maybe I should use at least one hook for his tail so that I can support his head with my free hand. I heard that they can't strike too quickly if you rub their belly and sing to them. And what's this tube stuff and uplexy thing?...real grown ups just use their bare hands don't they? That's what they do on t.v. isn't it? Yeah, that'll work. I'll post a pic
later:-)! I better have some coffee...things are getting goofy. Y'all have a great day. Be safe.

Ok, by the whole alkatraz thing I was just providing an example, I know there are escape proof rooms. And yes, I know that anitvenom isnt the easiest thing to get a hold of but you would be much better off with it. I also didnt realize how close most of you are to the miami serpentarium and other av production and distribution centers. I live in IL and if I were going to keep venomous this far from any av distribution center I would want av in my posession. And I didnt mean anything by it, I was just saying. I also got a good laugh out of you guys. Im in a library at school and I just burst out laugh and was asked to calm down. LOL, Thats just too funny. And as far as the slow strinking vipers goes, im not even gonna comment.
Thanks for the laughs- Eric

Mike,
Truthfully I think handeling a baby gaboon is not good judgement no matter what your age is. It is a dangerous risk that no one should have reason to. I am very supportive of younger herpers as I am one myself. There is no reason to get all angry over what people say. I have in the past and it ends up making you look inmature and stupid. From what I have learn over the years if you are going to keep exotic venomous snakes and you are under 18 its better to keep that to yourself. I have learned it is not good to show pictures of yourself with exotic venomous snakes like cobras, gaboons, and ect. You really need to relax and let it go and be mature about the issue. I wouldn't not keep exotics for the fact I do not have anti-venin unless I was near an anti-venin bank. Also try to work on your spelling a little bit. And no I am not trying to be mean but I just think it makes a person look smarter. Using profanity, that also makes you look very inmature. I have no issue with your keeping of gaboons but its best just to keep it to yourself. I have learn showing pictures of you with exotics equals a big sign that says "Hey look at me, I am beggin to be attacked". I had this happend when a few photos of me came out with a King cobra and some other cobra species. I can't stress the importance of not being hostile to others. That makes you look bad and makes you seem not very responsible.

I also think that two years experience is not enough to be keeping highly venomous exotics. At two years experience you should be focusing on native venomous snakes like Copperheads, Cottons, and Rattlesnakes.

By contrast there is a program on TV where a baby was born with the heart stopped, they got the heart going but the uterus of the woman is bleeding and the sutures are making the bleeding worse not better. So she is bleeding out while her baby may have complications. Medical shows truly make me cry because they show the horrible things that happen to people every day.
