hey everyone!
i was thinking about something today... i know there are a few caresheets already on here, but i was wondering if some of the more experienced keepers would work with me on compiling a care sheet for most types of venomous kept? i know this seems like it would be a bunch of work, but it would look professional for this site. i don't think it would advocate keeping of venomous for everyone...
maybe just a species list, and the type of venom they have.. with pics.
what do you all think?

I think its a great idea, but I cant exactly help you out on the care sheet part. I havn't owned a venomous yet however when i move to a state where its lawful I would find it in great use.
Good luck - Eric

There is already a section for caresheets.
Hit the File Library link on the left.
needs more caresheets, but it's been there all along.

Adam,
Before I transferred to San Diego I was soliciting articles for the newsletters and included in every newsletter was at least one captive care article (a fleshed out care sheet).
Getting people to write those was like pulling teeth and it is one of the significant reasons why the newsletter is not going on even now.
The folder is there and anyone that wants to submit a care sheet is more than welcome. I would be happy to see some level of participation from folks beyond the usual back and forth on the forums.
At some point in the near future (after I get a job and get re-established back at home in Georgia) I intent to convert all of the previously published captive care articles into usable care sheets and post them. Until then, I know that there are lots of knowledgeable keepers that could submit - they just don't.

Adam,
email me a list of what you are interested in doing.
We already have:
Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake
Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnake
Carolina Pigmy Rattlesnake
Eastern Coral Snake
Shield-nosed Cobras (Aspidelaps ssp)
African Coral Snakes (Aspidelaps ssp)
and several others that I will have to look up when I get home.

Karl,
I've written some chapters in the Int'l Herp Symposium books in addition to several soon to be released titles so if you need some extra people to write some basic care sheets, count me in.
Here's a few ideas of those that haven't been written and are critters I keep and work on a long term and daily basis:
- Atheris nitschei
- Eastern Massasaugas
- Timber rattlers
- Just about any other Crotalus where there would be an interest as we have one of the largest, if not the largest, public collection of rattlesnakes in the U.S.
- Neotropical rattlesnakes
- Lachesis stenophrys
- Jameson's Mamba
- Echis coloratus
- Cottonmouth
- Looks like you have cobras well covered....there could be some specific components such as scenting techniques to get king cobras weaned on to rodents
- Gilas
- Beadeds
I'll shut up!

wow! this is getting a better response than i expected! rob, some of the ones you mentioned seem very interesting... stuff like tips on scenting mice for king cobras, etc.
i think the only problem i see with this is that people will bash me for putting together care-sheets for venomous snakes... therefor making it easier for the inexperienced to start keeping things. i guess i could put a disclaimer in the front...
as for species, i'm going to be doing chapters i think. there would be a chapter for cobras, a chapter on tree vipers, a chapter on rattlers, etc. i'll have a pic of each on there, and obvious things like where they are native too,etc.etc. like i said, i just started thinking about this. i don't have a damn clue on how to start writing a book!! LOL
as for what species- i'm not sure if i'm going to include venomous lizards(i.e. beadeds and gilas). i've never kept them before.
any other ideas??
