Well, that's the odd part. Its not that people here want other people to treat their animals badly, because that would be wrong. Its that they don't want to encourage people to keep venomous reptiles even though they are themselves. A few comments about this used to be something you did but didn't admit to doing just a few years ago. A clandestine hobby like... collecting sea turtle eggs to hatch out in your kitchen? that may be a bit extreme, I never heard of anyone being so stupid to do that. Well, I don't know what to compare it to.

I see that this is becoming another misunderstood issue.
I don't believe there is anyone involved with the SHHS that has more experience dealing with the care sheet issue than me.
For years I begged, cajoled, prodded and basically was a nuisance to the entire venomous keeping community so that I could publish just one captive care article per quarter. That was the one article on which the entire newsletter hinged and it was always the toughest to get.
There were two major reasons for that difficulty.
1) It takes time to put into writing and a useable format.
2) Nobody wants the negative attention that is possible when you put into writing how you care for your animals and someone else disagrees.
Case-in-point: I tried for three years to get a captive care article on Naja kaouthia. Everyone was too busy. Several people told me that it was exactly the same as keeping Corn Snakes (except Naja kaouthia can kill you). So...I wrote a captive care article on them and had two separate cobra keepers review it for accuracy. After some very minor changes, it was published.
I dare any experienced cobra keeper who was a member to criticize it! They could have submitted their own article but were all "too busy".
So, I went to sea, and in my absence the newsletter languished and died. Now we no longer publish captive care articles. ANYONE is welcome to submit their care sheets for review and posting on this site.
ANYONE wanting to publish or repost a care article found on this site will NEED to get permission from the article's author.
There are plenty of care sheets available for various venomous animals online. All you have to do is search for them.

Michael, in a way you are right about site members not wanting to encourage folks to keep venomous snakes. If you look at the ``About the SHHS`` in the black area to the left, you will see that site members are about support of good husbandry practaces and education concerning venomous snakes, but you will also find the Discalmer, that states:
``The Southeastern Hot Herp Society in no way encourages anyone to keep venomous reptiles. Venomous reptiles are inherently dangerous and a bite / envenomation can lead to permanent injury or death. If a person keeps venomous reptiles or is planning to keep venomous reptiles, the Southeastern Hot Herp Society feels that it is that person's right to do so, as long as they accept the responsibility that comes with it. This includes responsibility for their own safety as well as the safety of others around them.``
I think that statement pretty well sums up the feelings of a lot of the members here. We are here to support others who share our interest in venomous reptiles, but not to go out and try to drag folks into venomous keeping.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards JohnZ

Oh, I keep forgetting to post this. I keep being told that no one keeps Forest Cobra here because they are too dangerous. This comes from experience taking care of them. So people do know how to take care of them because they have experience taking care of them. But they do not think that people should keep them because they are too dangerous. They may or may not currently be keeping them. So its THAT EXPERIENCE that I kept trying to tap to put together a Care Sheet if no one else would write one.
___AND___ THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT I wanted to make is that I bought the cobra from someone here, so there obviously are people who know HOW to take care of the cobra even if they don't think you SHOULD take care of it. Let me clarify a bit, I bought the cobra from someone on this website. Its no one's business who sold it to me though so don't ask.
I'm just sorta closing up something I kept forgetting to do. You can comment if you want but the topic is kinda dead.
