Hi guys,
This isn't a pure venomous question, but I figured since this is the forums for a Herp Society, they may be able to point me in the right direction.
I have been all over the net and tried my best to find a Herp Society in North Dakota or Minnesota. I live right on the boarder of the two states in the city of Fargo. I know there is a society down in Minneapolis, MN...but that is a 4-5 hour drive (one way) to get there so it's not practical for me.
Any ideas? I'd be happy to start one but I have little to no idea on how to do so.

Brian, it seens that there was once a North Dakota Herpetological Society, but it is probably not active now.
You might want to contact: Cully Gause teaches 8th grade science at South Jr. High School in Grand Forks. Theodore Hoberg teaches 7th grade science at Twining Elementary School located on the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Cully and Ted are co-founders of the North Dakota Herpetological Society and co-authors of "The Herp Handbook: Guide to Capture and Care of North Dakota Reptiles and Amphibians." The address for South Junior High is 1224 Walnut St, Grand Forks, ND 58201. The address for Twining is Grand Forks Air Force Base, ND 58228.
If these folks are still around, they might be very helpfull in getting the NDHS up and running again.
Or you could start one yourself. Just advertise it here, and on other forums, and find a meeting place, and post notices in local high schools, pet shops, etc.
Then host an organizatinal meeting and elect officers.
Hope this helps. Best Regards JohnZ

Cro,
Thank you VERY much for your help! I will contact them Monday (don't want to bother them so close to the holiday) and see what I can do. If The NDHS is no more, would you be able to point me in the right direction on how to start up the NDHS? I know that no one has time for hand-holding someone through the steps, but just a general idea, some web links and perhaps a structured outline. Anything would be helpful :) Thank you again!
Brian

Brian, I would go to as many websites as you can for different State Herpetological Societys, and look at how they are set up. For instance, on this site you will find "About the SHHS" which states the ideals the society is based on. Other Societys will have similar postings.
Then draw a rough draft of a society bylaws and goals and officer structure. You will probably need to set up a bank account and a dues structure of some sort.
Then find some place a society could meet month after month, although at first, someones basement might work.
Then set up an date for an first meeting and advertise it were ever you can, like schools, scout troops, pet shops, websites, etc.
Then have the organizational meeting, and set up a structure and regular meetings.
Let everyone pitch in and offer advise and help getting things rolling.
Hopefully, others here who have set up herp societys will offer some suggestions also.
I wish you the best of luck getting the NDHS going again.
Best Regards JohnZ
