Hi-
We are getting ready to build a house on 16 acres in the Southern California foothills (elev 3000').
Today my son found a rattlesnake. Being a smart lad he got the hell out of there.
We expect, of course, to find rattlesnakes on the property, along with lots of other wildlife.
The rattlesnakes, however are a problem. They will either have to be killed or relocated. I don't mind relocating them and have done so in the past, but I read an article a few years back about rattlers in New England and how they are very territorial and hibernate in the same caves every year and don't take well to being relocated.
Here are my questions:
1.Is relocation a good alternative? Or is it a guaranteed death sentence to the snake?
2. If the answer to #1 is YES, what kind of equipment should I keep on hand? A hook, tongs and some sort of bag? How about the "Aces Snake Tube"?
Also, what is the best snake bite kit out there? We'll be hiking a lot and I'll want one in my pack.

Oh, one more thing.
How about a noose, such as the Ketch-All Pole?
Are they safe for the snake?
