A friend of mine just had a timber have babies. I thought about getting a pair off him. I have heard different people say in the past that its hard to get timbers to eat. Would I have any trouble getting brand new babies to take pinkies? Do they generally eat well when born in captivity?
Thank you

It has been awhile since I have dealt with baby timbers (if you differentiate between timbers and canebrakes) but as I recall, they are born big enough to have no problems with pinkies and most will start up right away (after first shed) on small fuzzies. I never had a problem getting any started but as I said it has been years since I had to deal with timber babies. Good luck and watch your fingertips.

over the years, i've had about 10 encounters with timber/cane juvis, all wild caught. i never encountered a single one that didn't take the first meal offered. the one i caught this spring, wouldn't even strike, he would crawl straight to it, taste it, then just open his mouth and bite. it didn't care who was watching either. make sure you get pinkie mice, not pinkie rats. hope this helps.
