I was told that panacur..think i got that right..is good for getting rid of tapeworms in my cottonmouth in 1cc injection
my question is how often is this needed and does it have to be injected right down the throat or can it be applied right on a mouse because he does head bites and doesnt release =\

As far as I know, fenbendazole (Panacur, Safe-Guard) is not normally used for tape worms. I think I remember readin somewhere that it works for SOME species, but I'm not sure about that.
If you are going to try to use fenbendazole, the dosage depends on the weight of the snake, and what farm you have the medicine in. Can you be a bit more specific?
Putting it ON the mouse may not work. I've used a Safe-Guard suspension and injected it into the abdomenal cavity of a mouse...

Austin, fenbendazole or Safe-Guard does not work on Tapeworms, but does work on all other types of worms.
It is available in a liquid form and in crumbles that are designed for poultry to eat.
The liquid form could be injected into a mouse and the mouse could be then fed to the snake, or the crumbles could be used inside of a mouse also.
If you go to the First State Veternary Supply site, you will be able to find more information on the product (search for Safeguard). The site is mostly for poultry, however, the product is the same.

I will try to find out a bit more of what could be used to treat Tapeworms.
Hope this helps.

Austin, the Rundquist Reptile and Amphibian Parasite book has this to say:
"A highly effective drug for tapeworms is praziquantel at 10mg per kg body weight given orally once."
It also says that adult tapeworms are hard to kill, and additional treatments might be needed.

Go to Amazon.com and search "food scales," "kitchen scales," etc. Some are as cheap as $4.00 or $5.00.
Also, look at Walmart and Target in the kitchen-wares area.
Just make sure you get one that will weigh up to about 5 lb, that is calibrated in ounces, and you will be all set. It is easy to convert ounces to KG if needed, but many scales are english and metric marked.
Or, just borrow one from your neighbor who likes cooking and baking, and tell her you need to weigh some ingredients for a cake recipe, LOL !

Austin, take a 3 or 4 foot long wooden dowel, and mark the exact middle of it, and place that middle over a sharp edge like a triangular piece of wood that will act as a fulcrum.
Then hang two identical snake bags or baskets or ziplocks on each end.
Put the snake in the bag or basket on one end.
Add cans of soup, and other things in your kitchen that have the weight marked to the other bag.
When the two sides balance out, then the stuff in the bag weighs the same as the snake. Then just add up the lables on the cans and you have the weight in ounces. Then convert that to kilograms and then figgure out the required dosage.
Of course, the contents inside the can is what they are talking about, so a can with a net wieght of 12 ounces means that the stuff inside the can wieghs 12 ounces and the can weighs a bit more.
But it could be close enough for snake weighing.
Or, to be more accurate, just take a bunch of nickles, which weigh 5.00 gram each and dump them in the other bag until the snake balances out.
There are 200 nickles in a kilogram, which weight 1000 grams. I will let you do the rest of the math.
Best Regards JohnZ
