I was curious if anyone has been bitten twice and treated for an envenomation with both the old horse serum and later with the new Crofab(separate bites)?
Does having been treated with one or the other have any effect on future treatments with the other?
Is there more or less risk and/or resistance if upon the second envenomation you used a different antivenin as the first? My county hospitals stock both types in different hospitals.
I was also curious if you have been treated by both types of antivenin what were the long term effects?
So far all I get is that its taboo to use different antivenin on the same envenomation.

The one complication that may arise from being treated at a later date for a subsequent envenomation may be allergic or anaphylactic reaction to the antivenom. This is rare. In order to exhibit either reaction you need to be exposed to an allergen. Current production, filtration and digestion methods reduce the incidence of adverse reactions to these medications. Some folks become sensitized to the animals venom, which is a bigger problem as you won't arrive at the hospital for a while after being bitten. True anaphylaxis is a life-threatening emergancy and would need to be addressed quickly
There is no real prohibition concerning the use of differing antivenoms on the same envenomation. Consider the use of Crofab in a bite with systemic coagulopathic effects (bleeding and clotting problems, it might be wise in these circumstances to use another medication that would resolve these symptoms more efficiently. Crofab is known to have recurrent coagulopathy occur in envenomations from some species. Antivipmyn might be used as an alternative.
Wyeth no longer produces Antivenin Crotalidae Polyvalent (ACP), existing stocks will expire soon if they have not already. This leaves CroFab as the sole medication approved for use on mild and moderate envenomations due to North American Crotalidae.

Emergancy in the first paragraph should be emergency, I tried to correct it but I was unable to navigate backwards.

Please consider that the long term effects of an untreated envenomation can be far worse.
