Just saw this article today that says they are studying the proposed ban for 60 days and will revisit the issue.
Something to think about.

I think this might have happened back in 1999. Everything on the bottom of the page is dated 1999. Roark or Steve Bennett would know for sure.

The article is from the Coastal Carolina Society?
If it is from 1999, then they are a bit out of date.
If it is new, then perhaps the Coastal Carolina Society needs to update their web site and get their act together. Surely there is time to do this between shows.
There is a black fellow from district 2 of Columbia who is pushing this ban. He appears to be an attorney and perhaps even the X Mayor of Columbia, which is 50/50 Black and White in population. He seems to not like snakes, or the idea that snakes might get away and hurt folks. He also seems to not like folks "wearing" snakes. (did he see that at a reptile show, or is it common in the parks in Columbia)? I would guess that most of the 50% of this district do not like snakes also.
Perhaps that is a reference to the folks who walk around with ball pythons and other boids around their necks in public places ? Perhaps he watched Wesley Snipes in Snakes on a Plane, and got scared ?
It is good that the Riverbanks Zoo and the SC Department of Natural Resources, and others have spoken out against this reptile ban in Columbia.
I see nothing in the articles about SCARK taking any action at all against the ban in Columbia, but that is not too surprising. I am sure they will take credit after the fact, after others have worked to stop the letislation in Columbia.
I sure hope you independent folks in SC take up the cause and fight this bad legislation in Columbia. That is how they plan to take your state, one city at a time.....
Do not wait for other folks to bail you out. It is up to you to go out to learn the issues, and to protest the regulations that are proposed against your reptile keeping.
Best Regards JohnZ

I have seen members who are involved with Repticon post here. I have even been contacted by them through this website. (At my own request) Maybe one of them has more info on this topic.

I keep pretty up-to-date using our state's online legislation system (as well as having friends who know things). I haven't heard anything since the last time that bill was defeated, but I will shake the bushes a little. As John said, our state herpetologist and Riverbanks tend to be sympathetic to our cause. We are lucky to have a few strategically placed intelligent people here in SC.

Jason, thanks for posting the link. You can never be too carefull these days with the way some legislatures try to sneak things in without time for public comment.(Texas comes to mind).
Being Ever Vigilant and Always Suspicious of their motives, is the best way to deal with government.
The other problem is that things on the internet stay there for years and years, and are often not dated, and frequently not accurate. Search engines bring up news that appears to be new, which is however, ancient history.
Perhaps the original poster was reading some of that ancient history on the internet, and perhaps did not look for a date.

OK Folks I have called the Coastal Carlina Herp Society and Roark. Both have asured me that the article in question is from a 1999 CCHS newsletter. It was on the old web site. The new address is the NEW one http://www.ccherps.org/
So settle down the Columia Show WILL go on as planned!
