My cousin borrowed a trailer from a friend and when returning it he found a snake (he is not snake knowlegable) anyways he called my other cousin trying to describe it. He kept saying that it would flatten out and strike at him, but when he touched it it would turn over and play dead. So my second cousin called me since I was closer in distance to the first, it is indead a male Eastern Hognose (Black and Red in color) awesome little reptile about a foot long, once you get him out of cage he calms down and feins death, my kids laugh at him, and now he is a prized member of our extended family. Just thought I would share my families joy of getting a new reptile.

Eastern hogs are one my my favorites. I've worked with a number of them and just make sure you find a decent supply of toads. They can be easily (sort of) on to f/t mice via scenting. I've had the best luck when I made a "toad shake" of blended toads and water to liquify it (yeah, real gross and make sure the toad is already frozen before blending it...no need for anything to suffer). I pour the shake into freezer trays and then place inside a large freezer ziplock bag. I can then take small pieces of the frozen shake and smear it all over a washed off mouse. It takes some patience but eventually, most eastern hogs will figure it out. You'll probably have to feed a few toad meals first - trailing a scented mouse can also be effective. Have fun.

My wife finally got me my own freezer for that very reason...that would be the grossest mistake in the world. Human food stays in the human freezer and the animal stuff stays in their special place.....now you have me wondering; better check the freezer!
