Excellent Jason.
Always amazing at how some people are so authoritative and outspoken and yet so very wrong.
Good job.

LOL, I have also ran into people that believe they are right about venomous snakes and everyone else is wrong.

I get a lot of people that are like that at the museum that I work at, you would not believe how many people continue to tell me that the mangrove water snake that we have on display is venomous even after I tell them that we do not carry any venomous snakes at the museum due to liability. One person actually called my boss and left a message about how I did not know the dangers of venomous snakes that we carry at the museum and that I was allowing children to pet the highly dangerous water snake...
the ignorance of people these days is remarkable...

I have offered several times to give my local EMTs free training on basic snake ecology, myths, and identification. I tell them that I can't give medical advice, but I can show them where to find the latest in treatment techniques. I could defintely have them more knowledgeable about what they're dealing with, and even give them some hands on training. The guys and gals on the front line really want the training, but the upper brass refuse it without giving reason. At least they'll call me for removal. I can always do some teaching while I'm there.

Chris, do you think the folks are confusing the "Mangrove Watersnake" with what they have heard about "Mangrove Snakes," or do you think they are folks who think "any" fat bodied, thin necked, wide headed, dark colored watersnake is a Cottonmouth or some other venomous snake ????
In other-words, would say, a Banded Watersnake, get the same response from them, or is it the "Mangrove" name they are reacting to ?
Best Regards JohnZ
