I still haven't heard about confirming my registration. Maybe AOL is to blame. This race is close now and my 5 votes (25 medals) could have made a difference if the polls closed sometime today. The trend seems to be going strong for David, so I assume if continued, will turn the tide. This could probably change in a heartbeat though.
The eye doctor seems like a great guy. What would really be cool would be if both could be declared winners so nobody (in either large population of voters) is disappointed. Good PR for the sponsors.

yoyoing - check your spam filter. Sounds like your email is filtering their attempts to contact you.

Some people are having trouble voting because when they register they do not receive the confirmation email to enable them to complete registration and actually vote. I have now heard of this several times and they are all AOL customers, so it is clear AOL is blocking the return email.
You therefore need to chase AOL, the email should be there on ther server but not being delivered. if you can get it you can confirm and vote.
If anyone sorts out the AOL problem please post the solution on the forum, it will help other frustrated AOL customers.
Chris suggests the spam filters. Alternatively you might be able to go directly onto the AOL site using webmail and activate the address from there.
Well done everyone so far, Dave was leading when I closed down last night (UK time) but is again 30 behind. The competition is fierce and looks like going to the wire, unless one of the two horses falls.
Let's make sure Dave's horse does not fall and keep voting and canvassing.
Good luck and thanks

Checked spam filter as suggested. I was using default settings, so blocked mail has been permanently deleted. This sucks, but for others, they may want to change these settings in advance. There is even an option to specifically allow certain senders to get through. Maybe if someone could post the details on the sender, this could be helpful for AOLers.
Thanks,
Jim

I tried to register yesterday, no return email as of now. I tried to login, however, I received a message that my account was not activated, so I tried to re-register and could not because my email address had already been used (by me)...a catch-22 of sorts.
So, I just sent a letter to Holiday Inn" as follows:
"Yesterday, I attempted to register for your "real People with Extraordinary Passion" contest at the URL http://www.holidayinneverydayheroes.com/home.aspx . I filled in the name and email information and received a message stating that I would receive an email for verification. I never received this email and, as a result, I cannot login to vote nor can I use my email address to attempt to register again. As this contest ends on 31 January 2008, I would like to have a solution ASAP. Thanking you in advance, Marty Huxstep"
I use Comcast; the return email was not filtered by a spam filter; I simply have not received it. Any suggestions ?? I'm hoping that Holiday Inn Customer Service will provide assistance...we'll see !!

Since the subject of cheating has been brought up elsewhere, I will state for the record that "my" votes, meaning those prompted by me, consist of myself, my niece, nephew, sister-in-law, and a computerless buddy, with hopefully more to come. Guess I was naive as to what my previous post may have looked
like.

I have just been watching the contest every so often this evening (UK time) while I work on some lizard data and guess what.
Suddenly, once again, Dave's rival's votes started to climb, from 2983 a few short hours ago to 3232 now, having just overtaken Dave's 3225.
So in around 1-2 hours the chap's popularity has soared, no votes of consequence for most of the day, then come home time in Pakistan a sudden surge of almost 250 votes and it is still going up at a steady rate which equates to about as long as it takes to register and vote.
I think I smell something fishy, but not in the state of Denmark !
I wonder if Holiday Inns will check the IP addresses from which votes come because I figure this may be quite a monotonous list.
We need more votes folks, so canvas all your friends.
